Perets Ties Garteig's Single Season Shutout Record
HAMDEN, Conn. – Nine different players scored goals and 17 players recorded at least a point as #1 Quinnipiac posted a dominant 9-0 win over Princeton on Tuesday night at the People's United Center. The Bobcats improve to 17-1-3 overall and 8-0-1 in ECAC Hockey play this season.
First year goalkeeper Yaniv Perets earned his eighth shutout of the season, tying Michael Garteig's single-season record at Quinnipiac.
After 12 scoreless minutes, Skyler Brind'Amour ripped home a terrific feed from Quinnipiac's point leader Oliver Chau to crack the deadlock in the Bobcats' favor.
Brind'Amour's goal sparked a three-goal outburst over a 3:48 span, as Michael Lombardi scored at 14:41 and was followed by Ty Smilanic's third goal in as many games at 15:46 of the frame. Smilanic's goal came just six seconds into a Quinnipiac power play, marking the second time this week that Quinnipiac's PP unit scored less than ten seconds after the penalty was called.
A three-goal first was followed by a three-goal second, once again in quick fashion as the Bobcats struck for their second trio of goals in three minutes and thirty-nine seconds. Desi Burgart, Ethan de Jong, and Guus van Nes all scored while five more Bobcats recorded assists, including goalkeeper Yaniv Perets.
Quinnipiac wasted no time adding to the lead in the third period, as the nation's top team scored three more goals in the opening four minutes of the frame.
