Haywood and DeWees Push Bobcats Past Saint Peter's at Home

HAMDEN, Conn. – Junior forward Cur'Tiera Haywood scored a career-high 31 points as the Quinnipiac women's basketball team defeated MAAC foe Saint Peter's, 79-66, at home Thursday evening inside of the People's United Center.
Mackenzie DeWees added seven points, eight rebounds, six assists and a career-high nine steals in the victory. Her nine steals marked the second-most thefts in a single game in program-history.
The Bobcats improved to 8-6 on the season and 3-2 in the MAAC with the win, while the Peacocks fell to 5-7 on the campaign and 2-1 in conference-play.

- The Bobcats used the opening 3:07 of the contest to jump out to an early 11-0 lead behind a three-pointer apiece from Rose Caverly, Cur'Tiera Haywood and Amani Free
- After Saint Peter's cut Quinnipiac's lead to 16-9, Haywood and Sajada Bonner drilled back-to-back three-pointers to push ahead 22-9, before taking a 22-11 lead into the second quarter
- After the Peacocks cut the Bobcats' lead to seven with 6:45 to go in the second, Quinnipiac responded with four quick points to extend its lead to 11
- However, Saint Peter's responded with an 11-0 run of its own to tie the contest at 32-32 with 1:38 to go before the break
- The Bobcats closed the half with five consecutive points behind a layup from Rose Caverly and a three-pointer from Jackie Grisdale to take a 37-32 lead into the break
- After the Peacocks cut the deficit to three, the Bobcats responded with a 17-5 run to push ahead 54-39 midway through the third quarter before taking a 64-48 lead into the fourth quarter
- The deficit proved to be too great as the Bobcats eventually held on for the 79-66 victory
- The win marked Quinnipiac's second victory in a row
- The Bobcats improved to 15-0 all-time against the Peacocks with the win
- Cur'Tiera Haywood led the Bobcats with a career-high 31 points
- Her 31 points marked the highest scoring output by a Bobcat this season
- Haywood's 30 points marked the first time a Quinnipiac player scored 30 points in a game since Jen Fay posted 32 points against Manhattan on Dec. 31, 2017
