Bobcats' Comeback Attempt Falls Short at Iona

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Senior guard Mackenzie DeWees led the Bobcats with 14 points and six steals but it wasn't enough, as the Quinnipiac women's basketball team fell on the road against MAAC foe, 52-47, Saturday afternoon inside of the Hynes Athletic Center.
Mikala Morris tallied 11 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double, while Rose Caverly contributed 11 points and three assists.
The Bobcats fell to 8-7 on the season and 3-3 in the MAAC with the loss, while the Gaels improved to 3-8 on the campaign and 1-5 in conference-play.

- The two sides were nearly even through the first 10 minutes of play, with Iona carrying a slim 13-10 lead into the second quarter
- The Gaels opened the second with a 9-3 run to push ahead 22-13 with 4:31 left in the half
- Quinnipiac responded with a 7-2 run of its own to cut the deficit to 24-20 with 2:30 to go before the break
- Iona used the final two minutes of the half to outscore Quinnipiac 5-2 to take a 29-22 lead into halftime
- The Gaels used the first 7:50 of the second half to outscore the Bobcats 13-8, extending its lead to 42-30 before taking a 44-34 lead into the fourth
- Quinnipiac used the first four minutes of the fourth quarter to outscore Iona 8-3, trimming the deficit to 47-42 with six minutes to go
- The Bobcats were able to cut it to as close as 49-46 with two minutes left, but the Gaels withstood the run, holding on for the 52-47 win
- The loss marked the first time the Bobcats scored less than 50 points in a game since scoring 48 against Fairfield on Feb. 17, 2019
- Mackenzie DeWees led the way with 14 points and six steals
- DeWees has tallied five or more steals in seven games this season
- Mikala Morris added 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds for a double-double
- The double-double marked the sixth of the season for Morris
