Bobcats Extend Unbeaten Streak to Four Games After Coming Back From 2-0 Deficit
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 16/15 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team came back from a two-goal deficit Saturday night to tie the Brown Bears, 2-2, in ECAC Hockey action.
The Bobcats extended their unbeaten streak to four games with Saturday's tie while the Bobcats are now 11-2-1 over their last 14 games, with its .821 winning percentage over that span good for the best in the nation.
Quinnipiac also moved into sole possession of third in the ECAC Hockey standings with 22 points and is just two points behind No. 2/2 Cornell for second in the league.
Ethan de Jong (North Vancouver, British Columbia) got the Bobcats on the board with just three seconds remaining in the second period before Alex Whelan (Ramsey, New Jersey) tied the game in the early stages of the third period but neither team could break the deadlock of the final 22 minutes.
Quinnipiac nearly put home the go-ahead goal with 11:37 to go in the third period as Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota) tapped a one-time shot at the doorstep but Brown goaltender Gavin Nieto made a big save and held the goal line to keep the puck out of the net.
Keith Petruzzelli (Wilbraham, Massachusetts) had another incredible night between the pipes for the Bobcats as he made 27 saves and stole the show to keep the Bobcats in the game at times. After making just three saves on four shots in the first period, Petruzzelli made 24 saves over the final two periods and overtime in the tie.

SCORING SUMMARY
- (18:28, 1st period - PP) – Quinnipiac 0, Brown 1: The Bears got the scoring started on the power play in the waning stages of the first period as Bradley Cocca had his initial shot saved by Petruzzelli with a great pad save but Brent Beaudoin waited on the back door to tap home the rebound past a sprawling Petruzzelli.
- (17:23, 2nd period) – Quinnipiac 0, Brown 2: Beaudoin added his second of the game with 2:37 left in the second period as Zach Giuttari had his shot knocked down by Petruzzelli but Beaudoin shoveled home the rebound to double the Bears' lead.
- (19:57, 2nd period) – Quinnipiac 1, Brown 2: de Jong pulled the Bobcats back within a goal with just three seconds left in the second period as de Jong called a wide shot from Tufto behind the boards and banked the puck off Nieto for his sixth goal.
- (2:23, 3rd period) – Quinnipiac 2, Brown 2: Whelan tied the game early in the third period as William Fällström (Stockholm, Sweden) won a faceoff at center ice and Whelan knocked a Brown defender off balance with the puck before sniping a shot past Nieto's glove to make it 2-2.
- Whelan's goal was his 11th of the season as he scored a goal for the second straight night and third time in the last four games.
- He now has points in four straight games while his goal was the 46th of his career to pull him into a tied for 27th in program history.
- de Jong also scored Saturday night to extend his point streak to four games after recording assist in three straight
- He now has six goals this season after Saturday's tally and 17 points.
- Tufto also extended his point streak to four games with an assist on de Jong's goal and now has points in 11 of his last 13 games
- His assist was his ECAC Hockey leading 27th of the season while he reclaimed the league lead with 31 points
- Fällström assisted Whelan's tying goal in the third period for his 14th helper of the season, good for a career-high after recording 13 last season.
- Fällström has 15 points on the season, one of eight Bobcats to reach the 15-point mark this season
- Karlis Cukste (Riga, Latvia) also recorded his 15th point of the season as he tallied his 11th assist of the season
- Petruzzelli remained strong between the pipes with 27 saves in Saturday's contest
- He has made at least 25 saves in 12 games this season for the Bobcats, and made 24 saves for the Bobcats in the final two periods and overtime.
- Petruzzelli upped his save percentage to .918 on the season and lowered his GAA to 2.12 in the tie.
- The Bobcats return back home next weekend for a pair of games against the North Country travel partners as No. 5/6 Clarkson comes to Hamden Friday night before Quinnipiac hosts St. Lawrence Saturday night.
