Bobcats drop a tigh contest to the Buckeyes in Columbus
COLUMBUS, OHIO – The No. 10 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team dropped in a tight battle against the No. 5/5 Ohio State Buckeyes, 2-1. Junior Brooke Bonsteel scored in the second period to cut the Buckeye's lead to one goal, but Ohio State held on to the 2-1 lead to win the first game in the two-game series. Senior netminder Abbie Ives tallied 39 saves.
This is the first loss of 2020 for the Bobcats. Quinnipiac will complete its non-conference schedule against Ohio State on Saturday, Jan. 25.

- (9:04, 1st period, EV) – Quinnipiac 0, Ohio State 1: The Buckeyes got on the board first with a goal from Sara Saekkinen. Lisa Bruno and Rebecca Freiburger both tallied assists on the play.
- (10:20, 2nd period, EV) – Quinnipiac 0, Ohio State 2: Ohio State scored the second goal of the night after a pileup in front of the net. Gabby Rosenthal found the back of the net on a wrap-around play past senior Abbie Ives.
- (15:40, 2nd period, EV) – Quinnipiac 1, Ohio State 2: The Bobcats got on the board in the second period. Junior Renee Saltness found junior Laura Lundblad across the neutral zone. Lundblad tipped the puck to Bonsteel, who was on the move across the blue line. Bonsteel skated into to the top of the crease and sniped a shot past Ohio State's Braendli.
- Bonsteel scored her fifth goal of the season, and is on a three-game point streak. The junior has recorded five goals and eight assists for 13 points this season.
- Saltness and Lundblad recorded helpers on Bonsteels goal.
- Sophomore Lexie Adzija won 10 out of 16 faceoffs on the night.
- Ives tallied 39 saves, which is the second-highest number of saves for the senior this season.
- Only two penalties were committed in the game – Ohio State's Rebecca Freiburger and Quinnipiac's Adzija.
- Ohio State outshot Quinnipiac, 41-13.
- The Bobcats will get one more go at the Buckeyes on Saturday, Jan. 25. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m., in Columbus.
