
Volleyball Falls in Five Set Thriller at Siena

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The Quinnipiac volleyball team fell in a five set thriller at Siena to open up MAAC play. Aryanah Diaz tallied a double-double with 35 assists and 12 digs. Maggie Baker led the way for the Bobcats with 18 kills.

SET ONE
Morgan Sherwin got the Bobcat scoring going with back-to-back kills to tie the set at two. Two straight errors from the Saints gave the Bobcats at 9-7 lead. Siena would win four of the next five points to take a 12-11 lead. The Bobcats would battle back from three points down to take a 16-15 lead from a Maggie Baker kill. Siena would go on a 4-0 run to take the lead 19-17, resulting in a Bobcats timeout. With the Bobcats facing set point, they would take their final timeout of the set. Quinnipiac would fight off three set points, but would fall 25-23.
SET TWO
Siena would play from in front for the beginning stages of the set. The Bobcats would battle back to tie the set multiple times, including at 11-11 thanks to a Daniella Balsano ace. That ace would be in the middle of a 5-0 run, giving the Bobcats a 13-11 lead in the set, forcing Siena to take a timeout. The Bobcats would extend their lead out of the timeout, capped off a Morgan Sherwin kill to force the Saints to call their last timeout of the set at 21-15 Bobcats. Siena would go on a 3-0 run to cut the Bobcat lead to 21-18, but the Bobcats would bounce back to win the set 25-21.
SET THREE
The Bobcats did not waste any time taking control in the set, getting out to a 6-1 lead. Siena would battle back to tie the set at 10, and would take the lead 12-11. A 6-0 run from the Bobcats, led by Alejandra Rodriguez's serving forced a Siena timeout with the Bobcats leading 18-14. Siena would call their final timeout with the Bobcats leading 21-17. The timeout would not slow down the Bobcats as they would come out of the timeout and close out the set 25-18.
SET FOUR
Quinnipiac would get out to a 5-2 lead in the set. Two straight aces from Maggie Baker would extend the QU lead to 11-7. Both teams would trade points allowing the Bobcats to maintain their lead through the halfway point of the set. Siena would go on a 4-0 run, resulting in a Bobcats timeout, with QU leading 16-15 in the set. A Quinnipiac attacking error would give Siena their first lead in the set at 18-17. The Bobcats would call their final timeout of the set with Siena leading 21-18. Siena would come out of the timeout and wrap up the set, winning 25-21.
SET FIVE
Both teams would go back and forth in for the first few points of the set. Siena would switch sides with the lead at 8-5. Siena would take a 13-8 lead in the set and would win the set 15-10 to win the match.
