Women's Cross Country to Compete at Henry Mercer Invitational

Bobcats return to competition at Monmouth
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's and women's cross country programs are headed to Holmdel, N.J., to compete in the 25thAnnual Henry Mercer Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21. The Bobcats are returning to competition after a week off. Hosted by Monmouth, the Henry Mercer Invitational is set to begin at 10:15 a.m.
On Saturday, Sept. 11, the men's cross country team finished third out of 11 teams at the NassaneyInvitational hosted by Bryant. Two Bobcats placed in the top ten - Michael Kiernantook first for the Bobcats with a time of 25:06.8 and sophomore Cam Starr recorded a time of 25:52.8 in 10thplace.
The women's cross country team took second out of eight teams at Bryant's NassaneyInvitational for the team's second finish in second place of the season. Senior Meghan Curtin led the Bobcats with a ninth place finish overall (18:43.1) in the 5k race, and freshman Emily Young finished in 11thplace (18:50.7) to highlight the Bobcats' top finishers.
This is the third of six meets for both teams leading up to the 2019 MAACChampionships on Nov. 2. In 2018, the women's team took third place out of six teams, and the men's team took second out of six teams.
The women's team also has three freshmen who joined the 2019 roster – Marisa Keiser (South Brunswich, N.J.), Cassidy Phillips(Aurora, Ontario) and Clare Veverka (Hancock, N.H.). Eighteen Bobcats will return to the 2019 as letter winners from last year. A strong group of six experienced seniors look to lead the women's team to greater heights this season. Sara Wilcox, Morgan Voight, Ellie Songer, Amy Laverty, Meghan Curtin, and Kaitlin Bakas look to improve on the team's fourth place finish at the MAACChampionship in 2018.
