Goldring Records Second Goal of the Season to Give the Bobcats the 1-0 Win

HAMDEN, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac women's soccer team defeated the URI Rams on a rainy Wednesday afternoon, 1-0. Kelsey Goldring scored her second-straight goal of the season with a penalty kick in the 77th minute.

The Bobcats are now 2-0 on the season, which is the best start since 2015, and both wins have been shutouts, which is the first occurrence for the team since the 1993 season.

SCORING SUMMARY

(77' – Quinnipiac 1, URI 0): Freshman Rosie Weaver drew a foul in the Ram's penalty box, after a hard tackle by URI's keeper, Teresa Morrisey. Kelsey Goldring stepped up and buried the penalty to put the Bobcats on the board with a 1-0 lead.

NOTES

This is the first time the Bobcats have started the season with two back-to-back shutouts since the 1993 season.
Freshman keeper Meaghan Phillips has recorded two shutouts in her first two career starts.
The Bobcats out-shot the Rams 11 to 4, which is a season high for Quinnipiac.
Phillips had to make just two saves, while URI's Morrissey recorded three.
Freshman Markela Bejleri led the team with four shots, followed by Goldring with three.

UP NEXT
Quinnipiac will travel to Baltimore, Md., to take on the Loyola, Md. Greyhounds on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. This will be the first game played between the Bobcats and the Greyhounds since 2000.
