Softball Receives Three All-MAAC Recognitions

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Three Quinnipiac softball players received All-MAAC recognitions after the 2019 season, as announced by the league at the annual banquet on Wednesday evening in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Freshmen Alexis Otero and Lauren King were named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team, and senior Erin Larsen was named to the Second-Team All-MAAC as an outfielder.
Otero finished her freshman campaign with the third-best batting average on the team, recording 32 hits, eight doubles and two homeruns. The Chula Vista, Calif., native was an integral part of the Bobcats' offense. Otero shined particularly against Manhattan with a three-RBI home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Quinnipiac the 8-5 win. On defense, she led the Bobcats with 297 putouts at first base, which was also ranked fifth overall in the MAAC. Otero was named to the All-Rookie team for the first All-MAAC recognition of her career.
King completed her first year in the circle for Quinnipiac with the fifth-lowest ERA in the MAAC (2.52). She held opponents to a .220 batting average and allowed just 104 hits through 127.2 innings pitched. The Clearbrook, Va., native recorded 60 strikeouts through the season, finished with an 8-8 record and also tallied two complete-game shutouts. King was named to the All-Rookie team for the first All-MAAC recognition of her career.
Larsen ender her senior campaign with the second-best batting average on the team at .285. She recorded 35 hits, five doubles, three triples and three home runs. Her .439 on-base percentage ranked fifth in the MAAC and her three triples ranked second overall. The Kissimmee, Fla., native was walked 29 times, which was ranked fourth in the conference. She tallied 66 putouts and 54 assists as a primary outfielder for the Bobcats, holding a .968 fielding percentage. This is Larsen's second All-MAAC recognition of her four-year career.
The Bobcats finished the season with a 17-33 record and 8-12 conference record and look to keep building the momentum from this season in the off season under head coach Hillary Barrow.
