
Men's Soccer Earns Road Win in Final Match of Regular Season

LAWRENCVILLE, N.J. – First-year forward Tomas Svecula scored to break the tie in the 60th minute of play, as the Quinnipiac men's soccer program defeated Rider by the final score of 3-1 on Wednesday night at Ben Cohen Field.
Romain Daniellou and Jason Budhai also added goals for Quinnipiac in the victory.
With the win in the regular-season finale, the Bobcats finish with a 7-2-1 record in 2019 MAAC play. Quinnipiac has now appeared in the MAAC Tournament in seven straight seasons since joining the league back in 2013.

First Half
- (5' – Quinnipiac 1, Rider 0): The Bobcats got out to an early lead in the fifth minute, as Romain Daniellou bended a long shot into the left side of the net from out above the box. The senior possessed the ball on the right side of the field, then sent a long, looping cross all the way to the left corner of the goal.
- (36' – Quinnipiac 1, Rider 1): Pablo DeCastro found the lower-left portion of the net for Rider's lone goal of the night in the 36th minute of action to tie the contest.
- (60' – Quinnipiac 2, Rider 1): Tomas Svecula broke the tie in the 60th minute. The first-year forward received a pass from Jason Budhai, placed the ball in his left foot and blasted it into the corner of the goal to give QU another advantage.
- (87' – Quinnipiac 3, Rider 1): First-year forward Jason Budhai scored on a fast break with less than three minutes to go, beating the Rider keeper one-on-one for Quinnipiac's third goal of the game.
- Budhai's goal is the first of his Quinnipiac career. The first-year forward becomes the 11th player to score so far in 2019 for the Bobcats.
- Svecula's goal is his sixth of the season, as the fellow first-year striker has 16 points. His point total ranks second on the team, trailing just Eamon Whelan (19 points).
- Daniellou now has four goals and five helpers for 13 points in his senior season.
- Junior goalkeeper Jared Mazzola made six more saves. He has played every minute of the Bobcats' season in goal so far, earning all nine wins.
- Total shots were 17-9 in favor of Rider, and the Bobcats attempted five corners to the Broncs three.
- Quinnipiac has now made the postseason in seven straight seasons since joining the MAAC back in 2013, and eight straight years including 2012 in NEC play.
- Under Head Coach Eric Da Costa's tutelage, the Bobcats have posted an impressive 44-15-11 mark in regular season MAAC games. Since joining the conference prior to 2013, QU has a 59-48-33 overall record.
- Quinnipiac is now 4-6-0 vs. Rider. The Bobcats and Broncs split last season's series, as Rider defeated Quinnipiac in the 2018 MAAC title contest.
- The Bobcats have earned the No. 2 seed in the 2019 MAAC Tournament, and will host a semifinal matchup at the QU Soccer Stadium in Hamden on Thursday, Nov. 14.
