Iona Advances To MAAC Title
HAMDEN, Conn. – The No. 2 Quinnipiac men's soccer team fell in the 2019 MAAC Semifinals vs. No. 3 Iona by the final score of 2-1 on Thursday afternoon at the QU Soccer Stadium in Hamden.
Brage Aasen scored the lone goal of the game for Quinnipiac in the 89th minute, which was assisted by Jordon Bennett.
With the loss, the Bobcats 2019 season comes to an end. Iona will now advance to the MAAC title contest at No. 1 Saint Peter's.
Quinnipiac finished the year with nine victories, and a 7-2-1 MAAC record. The Bobcats have now had four-straight seasons with a winning league mark.

First Half
- (21' – Iona 1, Quinnipiac 0): The Gaels got on the board 21:20 into the first half, as Josh Plimpton scored from the right side of the net. Iona had a nice build up, as Najim Romero and John Paul Fernandez were each credited with an assist on the goal.
- (34' – Iona 2, Quinnipiac 0): Romero then scored on a penalty kick in the 34th minute to make it 2-0 after Iona drew a foul on goalkeeper Jared Mazzola inside the box.
- (89' – Iona 2, Quinnipiac): The Bobcats scored in the 89th minute to cut the deficit in half. Bennett sent over a cross to Aasen, who possessed the ball and ripped a shot into the lower-corner of the goal with his right foot.
- Iona recorded 12 shots to Quinnipiac's 11. The Gaels attempted five corners to the Bobcats' two.
- Aasen's goal is the first of his collegiate career. He also recorded six assists in 2019 for eight total points.
- Bennett's assist is his fourth of the season.
- Quinnipiac has made a postseason appearance in nine of the last 11 seasons.
- The Bobcats are 3-5-4 all-time vs. Iona. The Gaels have won the last four meetings (2017, 2018, 2019 twice).
- Under Head Coach Eric Da Costa's tutelage, the Bobcats have posted an impressive 42-15-11 mark in regular season MAAC games. Since joining the conference prior to 2013, QU has a 58-49-33 overall.
