Eagles Defeat Bobcats 4-2 in Season Opener

NEWTON, Massachusetts – A pair of unanswered second half goals pushed Boston College past Quinnipiac women's soccer, 4-2, on Friday evening at Newton Soccer Field. After trailing 2-0 after 20 minutes, the Bobcats scored twice in the final five minutes of the first half to even the score at halftime, but were unable to hold off BC's attack in the second half.

10:30 (BC 1, QU 0): Boston College struck first on a 25-yard strike by Gaby Carreiro. Jenna Bike played a through ball in behind QU's back line to set up the opportunity.
19:50 (BC 2, QU 0): The Eagles doubled their lead nine minutes later when Olivia Vaughn made a good run and finished a strike inside the left post for her first goal of the season. Carreiro earned an assist on the goal, giving her three points on the evening.
39:21 (BC 2, QU 1): The Bobcats narrowed the deficit in the waning minutes of the half when, following back-to-back corner kicks, sophomore Lauren Triglione (West Newbury, Massachusetts) picked up a loose ball in the box and buried it for the first goal of her career.
41:57 (BC 2, QU 2): Less than three minutes later, the ball popped free in the center of the field and found the right foot of senior Madison Borowiec (Windsor, Connecticut), who sent a screamer into the top left corner of the goal to tie the game. It was the first of the season for Borowiec and ninth of her career.
51:29 (BC 3, QU 2): Boston College wasted little time retaking the lead once the teams returned to the pitch for the second half. Vaughn timed her run perfectly and got on the end of a long ball from Kayla Jennings, poked the ball past Quinnipiac goalkeeper Olivia Myszewski (Elm Grove, Wisconsin), and walked it in for her second goal of the game.
76:49 (BC 4, QU 2): Boston College's Jenna Bike was taken down in the box, earning a penalty kick. Carreiro finished the PK with touch and put the Eagles back up by two goals.

NOTES

Quinnipiac loses the season opener for the first time since a 1-0 loss to Maine in the 2014 season.
Triglione scored the first goal of her career, while Borowiec scored the ninth of her four-year stint.
Boston College held the edge in shots, 15-7, and shots on goal, 9-4.
Olivia Myszewski (Elm Grove, Wisconsin) played the full 90 minutes in the net and made five saves in the effort.
