HAMDEN, Conn. — Five Quinnipiac athletic teams received Public Recognition Honors from the NCAA for their latest Academic Progress Report (APR) scores in a report released on Wednesday afternoon.
The five Bobcat teams honored by the NCAA for grading in the top 10 percent of their respective sports are women's cross country, men's cross country, women's basketball, women's tennis and men's tennis. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17 academic years.
Women's cross country, men's cross country and women's tennis earned Public Recognition Honors last year, while women's basketball and men's tennis joined the list of Quinnipiac honorees this year. Women's cross country was honored for the eighth year in a row, the longest streak for a Quinnipiac program in the APR's history, while men's tennis was honored for the first time.
The five teams honored also matches the most that Quinnipiac has had since it had six in the first year of the APR program in 2004-05. That six-team total in the first year also included both indoor and outdoor track and field, which are now evaluated as a single program.
APR scores for all Division I teams will be released May 23. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.
