WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The Quinnipiac outdoor track and field team earned a 17th-place finish out of 42 teams at the three-day Colonial Relays on the campus of the College of William and Mary, which concluded on a rainy and cold Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcats ended the event with 27 points, after coming into the final day of competition with 24. At one point yesterday, Quinnipiac was in second place with 24 points, just two off the lead, after senior Jessica Lee won the 100-meter hurdles and junior Marlo Wehrer finished third in the 400-meter hurdles. In tough conditions today, the Bobcats managed three more points out of their relays to earn 17th place overall at the prestigious event.
The Quinnipiac 4x800 relay team earned two points with a seventh-place finish, as sophomores Meghan Curtin, Ahmetra Davies, Gillian DiGiacinto and freshman Brooke Hagen ended in 9:33.84. The distance medley relay of sophomore Morgan Voight, senior Christina Barbaro, Davies and junior Maria Ricalton also earned a point by finishing in eighth place with a time of 12:39.81 to give the Bobcats 27 points overall.
Lee and Wehrer both earned automatic qualifications for the ECAC Championships in May, while Lee's time already puts her at a spot that would have qualified her for the NCAA Regionals a year ago. Lee's 13.52 passed her own school record set last year at the Penn Relays.
The Bobcats will be back in action next weekend with a split squad, as some members will head to Auburn to compete in the Tiger Classic, while others will head to Lawrenceville, New Jersey for the Rider Invitational.
