HAMDEN, Conn. - Junior attack Mike Fletcher (Syracuse, N.Y.) was named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) National Team of the Week, it was announced today.
Fletcher earned the honor a day after being crowned the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week following his big performance in Quinnipiac's 12-11 overtime win over Brown on Saturday. Fletcher tallied four goals and one assist, including the game-winning goal in overtime, as the Bobcats knocked off the 17th-ranked Bears. His game-winner was an unassisted tally as he took the ball from the end line off a restart, and came all the way around to the front of the cage before placing a shot into the upper-left corner.
Even before the game-winner, the Brown game had already represented was a breakthrough performance for Fletcher, who saw limited action in his first two seasons, scoring a combined three goals, before starting on opening day against UMass Lowell last week. He scored his fourth career goal in the UMass Lowell contest, then matched his total for his entire career in one afternoon against Brown.
The full 10-member USILA National Team of the Week for games ending Feb. 18 was comprised of the following players:
