LITTLESTOWN, Pennsylvania – The Quinnipiac University women's golf team finished second out of 10 teams at the 2017 Seahawk Invitational hosted by Wagner University at Quail Valley Golf Course in Littlestown, Pennsylvania.
"The team did a very good job today, I'm very proud of them," head coach John O'Connor said. "Estefania [Morales] as an individual hung in there. Emily Ribbins did a great job and Alexandra Sazhin as a freshman continues to play consistent golf."
Quinnipiac freshman stand-out Alexandra Sazhin (New Fairfield, Connecticut) finished tied for fifth out of 59 golfers after following Sunday's 76 with a 77 for the final round to give her a 153 (+9) for the tournament. Sazhin was third in the field with total holes parred as she was even on 26 of the 36 holes for the tournament.
Senior Emily Ribbins (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) shot a 155 (+11) for the tournament to finish tied for 8th and the second Top 10 finish of her career. Ribbins shot a 77 on Sunday and completed the 36-hole tournament with a 78 over the final 18 holes. The fourth-year Bobcats was second among the field in Par 4 scoring at +3 tied for eighth with 22 pars for the tournament.
Estefania Morales (Caracas, Venezuala) also shot 155 for the tournament and was the top finisher among individuals. Morales shot a 76 on Sunday and produced a 79 for the final round on Monday.
"Julia Kemmling turned her game around to shoot a 78 today and Abby made the biggest improvement," O'Connor said. "We are very focused and looking forward to our next event."
Julia Kemmling (Berlin, Connecticut) had a great second round with a 78 – a five-stroke improvement from her first day total while Abby Chase (Beaver Dam, Wisconsin) had the largest second-round improvement on the team and the second-largest in the 59 player field. Chase shot an 84 on Sunday and rebounded with a 77 for the final round.
The Bobcats return to Connecticut for their two final tournaments when they compete in the Hartford Invitational at Tumblebrook Golf Course in West Hartford, Connecticut on Apr. 8-9 and the Yale One Day Invitational at the Yale Golf Course on Apr. 16. The reigning Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Champions will then head to Lake Buena Vista, Florida for the three-day conference championship at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course on Apr. 21-23.
