ATHENS, Georgia - The Quinnipiac University women's golf team completed the first round of play at the NCAA Athens Regional in 18th place after shooting a combined 333 for the day.
Quinnipiac sophomore Luciana Tobia-Palza (La Paz, Bolivia) was the team's highest finisher, shooting an 82 (+10). Tobia-Palza started on the 10th tee and was +1 through three holes before completed the back nine at +6. She went on to shoot four-over over the front nine, with par on five of her final nine holes of the day. Tobia-Palza saved herself a stroke when she punched a ball from under a tree onto the 18th green to save par.
Estefania Morales (Caracas, Venezuela) was one-over through her first four holes and three-over through the first six holes before a double bogey on the 16th hole and a triple bogey on the 17th hole put her at +8 for the back nine. She rebounded at the turn after bogeying holes No. 1 and No. 2 to par six of her last seven holes of the day and shoot a team-best three-over on the front nine. Morales finished the day with an 83 (+11).
Alexandra Sazhin (New Fairfield, Connecticut) finished with an 84 (+12), highlighted by a four-over showing on the front nine. Julia Kemmling (Berlin, Connecticut) also shot an 84 (+12). Kemmling rebounded from a tough start on the first five holes of the day to birdie the 17th hole for a seven-over back nine. Kemmling then parred six of her last 10 holes for the afternoon. Nicole Scola (Westerly, Rhode Island) finished the day with an 88 (+16)
