
QU Women's Tennis Sweeps Fairfield, 7-0, in Home Finale

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac women's tennis team was able to extend its win-streak to five and remains unbeaten in MAAC play after sweeps Fairfield, 7-0, on Tuesday afternoon at the QU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
With the win, Quinnipiac pushes its winning-streak to five straight games, moving to 10-7 (5-0 MAAC), while Fairfield falls to 5-15 (4-2 MAAC).
Including MAAC Tournament matches, the Bobcats are now 32-0 in matches against MAAC opponents since joining the new league coming from the Northeast Conference in the 2013-14 season.
Quinnipiac was dominant on the court against Fairfield, sweeping the Stags while not dropping a single set in the duel. Sitilia Rencheli (Sarasota, Florida), Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California), Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) and Layla Rodriguez (Rancho Santa Margarita, California) all won multiple matches on the day.
The day began with the No. 3 doubles match, where Rodriguez and Lu cruised past Diana Prinos and Shelby Vertula, 6-1. It was the duo's fifth win in a row together, pushing their unbeaten streak to five as well. Kelsi Oliphant (Calgary, Alberta) and Rencheli took the court in the No. 2 doubles match against Emily Lombardi and Karen McKeough, with a chance to clinch the doubles point for the Bobcats. The senior duo came through, as they defeated the Stags' pair, 6-4. The win was the duo's eighth straight as a pair, improving their record to 8-0. Horton and Young secured the doubles sweep, as the senior pair defeated Nicole Arogones and Sarah Stuhlmann, 6-4. The win was the duo's 22nd of the season, which is tops on the team.
Quinnipiac capitalized on its 1-0 lead, adding six more wins in singles play. Rodriguez took on Shelby Vertula in the No. 5 singles match, winning in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-0 The win was the freshman's 35th of the season, which is third on the team. Horton followed with a win of her own over Prinos in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-2. The win was her 22nd singles win of the season, which is a new career season-high, as the most she previously had in a season was 20 singles wins.
The Bobcats clinched the match after Rencheli swept Stuhlmann in the No. 1 match, 6-3 and 6-2. Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California) earned a win over Lombardi in the No. 6 singles match in straight sets, 7-5 and 6-3. The win was Lohaphaisan's was fourth in a row, which is the longest active singles win-streak on the team. Lu followed with her second win of the day, sweeping Arogones, 7-5 and 6-2 in straights.
Young closed the duel in strong fashion, sweeping Jessica Pil, 7-5 and 6-4. The win was Young's 38th of the season, which is tops on the team.
Quinnipiac will be back in action on Thursday, April 20, when the Bobcats travel to take on the Fordham Rams at 3 p.m.
