POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Senior guard Khallid Hart had 28 points in his final home game as the Marist men's basketball team took an 87-74 win over Quinnipiac on Thursday evening at McCann Arena.
With the loss, the Bobcats slip to 10-19 overall and 7-12 in the MAAC, while Marist improves to 8-22 overall and 5-14 in league play with the win.
Quinnipiac almost had three players with double-doubles but all three fell one rebound short. Junior forward Chaise Daniels (Meriden, Conn.) had 24 points and nine rebounds, freshman guard Mikey Dixon (New Castle, Del.) had 19 points and nine rebounds, and freshman guard Peter Kiss (New York, N.Y.) had 12 points and nine rebounds.
Marist took a 41-35 lead into the break behind 19 points from Hart, who was 9-11 from the line in the first 20 minutes alone. Daniels helped keep the Bobcats in it with 13 points, while sophomore guard Andrew Robinson (Takoma Park, Md.) knocked down a three-pointer on Quinnipiac's last possession of the half.
Ryan Funk, who was scoreless in the first half, hit four baskets in the first nine minutes of the second half, including a pair of three-pointers, to help Marist open up a 64-48 lead. Junior guard Reggie Oliver (Apopka, Fla.) knocked down a three-pointer to stop the run, and the Bobcats got as close as 79-71 with 3:40 left after junior guard Phil Winston (Lakewood, Wash.) had a steal in the backcourt and a layup.
The Bobcats earned a stop and had a chance to draw closer but Dixon's three from the right wing hit off the front rim. Hart made two foul shots on the next possession to push the lead to 10, and Isaiah Lamb had a dunk as the shot clock expired to seal it.
Funk had 12 points and Lamb had 11 in support of Hart, while Winston had 10 points for the Bobcats. Marist shot 22-25 from the foul line on the day to help keep the Bobcats at arm's length.
Quinnipiac is back in action on Sunday when it closes out the regular season with a home game against Rider at 2 p.m. The Bobcats will honor their three seniors prior to the game, Daniel Harris (Tampa, Fla.), Donovan Smith (Chicago, Ill.) and Alain Chigha (Yaounde, Cameroon).
