Sophomore Averaged 18.5 Points, 6 Rebounds, 4 Assists and 2 Steals in a 2-0 Week for the Bobcats
HAMDEN, Connecticut – Quinnipiac women's basketball sophomore forward Aryn McClure (Springfield Gardens, New York) was named the MAAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday, February 13, 2017. McClure also took home the College Sports Madness MAAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors, making it a clean sweep of the weekly awards for the sophomore standout.
McClure, the 2015-16 MAAC Rookie of the Year, earns her second career MAAC Player of the Week honor handed out by the conference while the College Sports Madness honor is the third such award earned in her career. A key lynchpin in a dominating past week, McClure was a driving force behind a pair of huge wins coming against Marist (79-57) at home and Siena (76-60) on the road.
The sophomore dominated early and often, to the tone of two straight season high scoring outings as she notched 16 points against Marist and followed with a big-time 21-point performance at Siena. Averaging 18.5 points per game over the 2-0 week, McClure was efficient from the floor going 16-for-33 (48.5 percent) overall while hitting the first three-pointer of her career (missed first 22 career attempts).
McClure's 16-point game against Marist included five rebounds, four assists and two steals in 27 minutes. Her primetime performance came in the road win over Siena as she notched 13 of her 21 points in the fourth quarter while reaching the 20-point plateau for just the second time in her career (one point off her career high). Looking to carry her team to the win down the stretch, McClure scored 13 of the Bobcats' 16 points in a span of 6:33 in the final quarter.
The Bobcats and McClure head into another crucial week as the team next hits the floor on Friday night as Quinnipiac welcomes Iona for a 5 PM tip-off in a game that can be seen live on ESPNU. Quinnipiac's Friday night showdown with the Gaels comes three weeks after Iona took down the Bobcats, 58-44, in New Rochelle as the two MAAC powers jockey for positioning in the conference standings heading into the upcoming MAAC Tournament.
