
Big Second Half Leads Lafayette Past QU Men's Basketball

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette men's basketball team started the second half on a 10-0 run and ended it with a 12-0 run to earn a 79-58 win over Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon at the Kirby Sports Center. The Bobcats led 30-29 at the half and were within seven (64-57) at the final media timeout with 4:00 to play, but Lafayette closed strong to stretch the final margin to its largest lead of the afternoon.

- The Bobcats led 30-29 at the break, but Lafayette scored the first 10 points after halftime, stretching their run to 14-0 spanning both halves, to pull ahead 39-30.
- Lafayette built a 14-point lead (50-36), but the Bobcats were able to get back in it with their press. Freshman guard Rich Kelly (Shelton, Conn.) and junior guard Aaron Robinson (Takoma Park, Md.) had steals and breakaways to close the lead to 51-42.
- A four-point play from junior guard Andrew Robinson (Takoma Park, Md.) had the Bobcats within 56-49 with 8:42 to go.
- Two foul shots from Chaise Daniels (Meriden, Conn.) with 4:22 left cut the Lafayette lead back to seven at 64-57, and after a stop, Aaron Robinson had a good look at a three-pointer to cut it to four, but it hit off the rim.
- Lafayette finished the game on a 12-0 run to push the final margin from nine to 21.
- Quinnipiac went into the locker room with a 30-29 lead. Lafayette led 25-20 with 3:56 left in the half before the Bobcats went on a 10-0 run, keyed by two three-pointers from Jacob Rigoni (Adelaide, Australia)
- Rigoni matched his personal high of eight points in the first half alone.
- The Bobcats did not allow a field goal for the final 6:40 of the first half, but Lafayette was able to keep it close by shooting 8-8 from the line during that stretch.
- Lafayette shot 93.1 percent from the line on the day (27-29), led by 13-13 from Matt Klinewski, who had a game-high 26 points.
- Daniels led Quinnipiac with 12 points, while junior guard Cameron Young (Los Angeles, Calif - pictured.) had 11.
- Nobody on the Bobcats made more than three shots from the floor on the day.
- The meeting was the first ever between the two schools
