Furious Rally Comes Up Short as QU Men's Basketball Falls to Maine 78-72

HAMDEN, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac University men's basketball team cut a 26-point deficit down to four in the final minute, but lost to Maine,78-72, in a non-conference matchup at the TD Bank Sports Center. With the loss, Quinnipiac drops to 1-5 overall while Maine picks up its first victory of the season to improve to 1-5. Quinnipiac senior Chaise Daniels (Meriden, Conn.) led all scorers with a season-high 24 points after converting on 6-of-9 from the floor and 12-of-15 from the free throw line. Andrew Robinson (Takoma Park, Md.) poured in a career-best 17 points, knocking down season-high four three-pointers for the game.

- Maine held a 46-23 lead at the half, and took its largest lead of the game, 52-26 with 14:47 left in the game before Quinnipiac outscored the Black Bears, 46-26 over the remainder of the game.
- Daniels and Robinson totaled 17 points, each, in the second half, accounting for 34 of the Bobcats' 49 second-half points. Daniels keyed in on 5-of-5 from the floor and 7-of-9 from the free throw line.
- Quinnipiac got as close as four points (76-72) with 26 seconds left on a three-pointer from Robinson, but Aaron Calixte knocked down two foul shots for Maine and the Bobcats couldn't come closer.
- Daniels' 24 points stands as a season-high for the fourth-year Bobcat, and the second-highest point total of his career after dropping in 28 against Fairfield on Feb. 13, 2016.
- Daniels' 12 free throws are a season-high for the Bobcats. As a team, Quinnipiac shot 18-for-26 from the free throw line for the game.
- Daniels also pulled in a team-leading seven rebounds, which matched his season high, and tallied three blocks.
- Robinson's 17 points were a season-high, and also matched his career best that he posted against Rider on Feb. 11, 2017. Robinson also knocked down a season-best four three-pointers in the game.
- Alain Chigha finished with seven steals in the game, which were the most by a Quinnipiac player since Jeremy Bishop had eight against Hofstra on Dec. 1, 2002. Chigha also had seven points and six rebounds.
