Coach's Corner with Baker Dunleavy: Offensive and Defensive Philosophies
10/31/2017 10:47:00 AM | Men's Basketball
HAMDEN, Conn. - First-year Quinnipiac men's basketball coach Baker Dunleavy discusses some of the offensive and defensive philosophies he hopes to bring with him from his very successful tenure as an assistant on the Villanova men's basketball staff, as he sits down with Hannah Cotter '19 of the Bobcat Sports Media Group (BSMG) in the latest edition of Coach's Corner.
Dunleavy helped the Villanova program to a 129-17 record over his final four seasons as an associate head coach with the Wildcats under Jay Wright, including the 2016 national championship. Villanova has been known for its spread offense and guard-oriented play, dating back to Dunleavy's playing days in the 2000s, when the Wildcats were a top five team with a four-guard lineup of players 6-3 and under (Allen Ray, Randy Foye, Mike Nardi, Kyle Lowry). More recently, Villanova has produced two Big East Players of the Year out of its backcourt in Ryan Arcidiacono and Josh Hart during Dunleavy's tenure. Defensively, Villlanova has been known as an aggressive man-to-man defensive team with versatile players able to guard multiple positions, a philosophy that Dunleavy hopes to instill at Quinnipiac.
