
No. 9/8 QU Women's Ice Hockey Falls to Cornell, 3-2, in OT

ITHACA, New York - No. 9/8 Quinnipiac women's ice hockey fell to ECAC foe Cornell, 3-2, in overtime on Saturday afternoon at Lynah Rink. Kate MacKenzie (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Taryn Baumgardt (Innisfail, Alberta) each scored a goal in the loss. Danielle Marmer (Dorset, Vermont) and Raquel Pennoyer (Rehoboth, Massachusetts) both picked up two assists.
Cornell's Hanna Bunton netted the game-winner just 10 seconds into the overtime period. The Bobcats fall to 16-6-4 (9-4-2 ECAC) with the loss, while Cornell moves to 11-5-2 (7-2-2 ECAC) with the win.
Quinnipiac is now 5-3-2 in its last 10 games vs. the Big Red.
Cornell out-shot the Bobcats 13-3 in the first period. The Big Red broke the tie with 1:44 left in the stanza, as Kristin O'Neill backhanded the puck into the the net to make it 1-0 heading into the first intermission. Amy Curlew played the puck forward to O'Neill to earn an assist on the goal, creating the open chance for O'Neill's eighth goal of the year.
Quinnipiac fought back in the second, though, evening the game up with 7:42 left in the second period. Marmer played the puck to Pennoyer at the point, who delivered a perfect pass to Kate MacKenzie. MacKenzie did the rest, firing a slap-shot toward that net that wobbled in to make it 1-1. The goal is MacKenzie's fifth of the season.
Cornell took the lead again 5:27 into the third period, however, as O'Neill grabbed her second goal of the game on a wrist shot from the left side of the ice to make it 2-1 Big Red. Amy Curlew and Jaimie Bourbonnais were each credited with an assist on the play.
But the Bobcats evened things up once again, as Baumgardt recorded her fifth goal of the season to make it 2-2. Marmer skated down ice with the puck and played it behind the goal to Pennoyer, who placed a pass out in front of Baumgardt for the blast on net. Marmer now has six assists on the year, while Pennoyer has five.

Bobcats' goaltender Sydney Rossman (Excelsior, Minnesota) registered 23 saves in net. Cornell had 26 shots on net to Quinnipiac's 19, though Quinnipiac had six more total shot attempts.
Quinnipiac is back in action next weekend for just one game, traveling to North Andover, Massachusetts to square off with Merrimack at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017.
