HAMDEN, Connecticut – Quinnipiac women's soccer senior forward Sarah Pandolfi (North Haven, Connecticut) was named the MAAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday, September 5, 2016. Pandolfi's career game on Sunday against Delaware State vaulted her into leading contention for the first weekly award honor of her career.
Pandolfi's first career MAAC weekly honor comes following a career high five-point performance on Sunday as she went for two goals and one assist in the Bobcats' convincing 6-2 victory over the Hornets. The five-point effort included the first game-winning goal of her career in addition to her first career multi-goal game in what is now her third full season of collegiate soccer.
She had a hand in half of the Bobcats' six goals scored in the 6-2 win over Delaware State, which stands as the most goals scored by Quinnipiac in a single-game since 2010. Pandolfi started by tallying the lead assist on the first goal of the game from Nadya Gill (Toronto, Ontario) in the fourth minute of Sunday's contest. Later in the 21st minute, Pandolfi fired in the eventual game-winner off a pass from Ally Grunstein (Warren, New Jersey) as she capitalized on what was a four-on-one break for the Bobcats. Kickstarting the second half, Pandolfi added some insurance as she fired in a shot from distance off the crossbar and in to make it 5-2 in the 47th minute.
Now tied for the team-lead with seven points on the season, Pandolfi is just one point shy of eclipsing her entire career scoring output (eight points) prior to this season. Pandolfi joins Jessica Jankowski and Gill – who both earned the award in 2015 – as the only three players in program history to earn MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
The announcement from the MAAC league office signals a third straight week in which Quinnipiac sees a player recognized with a weekly award. Olivia Myzsewski (Elm Grove, Wisconsin) and Grunstein each picked up a MAAC Rookie of the Week award in the first two opening weeks of the season while Pandolfi's honor makes it three straight.
Pandolfi and the Bobcats will be back in action twice this week as Quinnipiac heads to Bryant on Wednesday for a 3 PM start and will be visiting the reigning America East Champions UAlbany on Sunday at 1 PM.
