LYNCHBURG, Virginia – The Quinnipiac University field hockey team lost to Liberty, 6-1, in a BIG EAST Conference game in Lynchburg, Virginia. With the loss, the Bobcats drop to 1-1 in conference play and 1-8 overall while Liberty improves to 2-5 overall and 2-0 in the BIG EAST.
Lauren Belskie (Hillsborough, New Jersey) scored her first goal of the season with nine minutes to play in the first half to cut into Liberty's lead. Angie King (South Windsor, Connecticut) picked up the assist on the play off the corner. In goal, Hannah Teicher (Bethesda, Maryland) stopped six of Liberty's nine shots on goal in a career-high 46 minutes in goal.
Liberty's Agueda Moroni scored the game's first goal and what would be the first of three unanswered markers in the first half. Rachel Suter picked up the first of her two assists in the game when she fired the puck into the box where Moroni was able to re-direct it past Quinnipiac starting goalkeeper Olivia Golini (York, Maine).
Abby Julius scored twice to give Liberty a 3-0 lead, with both goals coming off of corners. Belskie's first goal of the season, and fifth of her career, also came off a corner. Michelle Federico (Cheshire, Connecticut) inserted the ball to stick-stop Dayna Barlow (Port Elizabeth, South Africa). Barlow held the ball for King, who faked a shot and dished it to Belskie on her left. Belskie's blast from the top of the circle found its way through traffic in front of Liberty's Allison Schaefer before it beat the Flames' goalkeeper between the legs to put the Bobcats on the board.
In the second half, Serena Barr scored twice while Kendra Jones also added a goal to give Liberty the 6-1 lead. Pippa Best, Cassidy Bremner and Summer Parker all picked up assists down the stretch.
The Bobcats return to action on Friday, Sept. 30 when it travels to Conshohocken, Pennsylvania to take on Villanova in a BIG EAST Conference match-up at 4 p.m.
