QU Women’s Tennis Travels to Army West Point for West Point Invite

THE WEST WING
The Quinnipiac women's tennis team hits the road for their third tournament of the fall this weekend as they will compete in the West Point Invite at the Malek Tennis Center on the Army West Point Campus. The tournament begins on Friday, Sept. 23 and runs through Sunday, Sept. 25 with competition beginning each day at 9 A.M.
AT THE WEST POINT INVITE
Last season, Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) led the Bobcats at the West Point Invite, reaching the Flight "B" singles consolation championship match as well as the Flight "A" doubles semifinals with Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California). Horton won two matches in both singles and doubles in her successful showing at the West Point Invite.
GREAT START
Freshman Layla Rodriguez (Rancho Santa Margarita, California) has gotten off to a fast start in her collegiate career, already racking up eight victories, on her way to an 8-2 record. Rodriguez is is 7-1 in doubles play through the first two tournaments of the season while she has compiled a 1-1 mark in singles play.
ACTIVE LEADERS
Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) and Rachel Horton are the two winningest members of the program on the active roster. Young is the active leader in wins on the team with 111 through three seasons while Horton is second on the active roster with 98 wins.
CLOSING IN ON 100
Horton has the chance to win her 100th career match this weekend at the West Point Invite. She currently sits at 98 wins with 61 wins coming in doubles matches and 37 coming in singles competition. When Horton reaches the milestone, she will be the 21st player in program history to do so.
DOUBLES DOMINATION
Through two tournaments this season, QU women's tennis boasts a 26-3 record in doubles competition, including going 20-0 at the Sacred Heart Doubles Festival to begin the season.
CONNECTICUT SWING
After wrapping up the West Point Invitational this weekend, the Bobcats will travel to UConn on Tuesday, Oct. 4 for their first duel match of the season, followed by another duel match at Sacred Heart the next day.
