HAMDEN, Connecticut – In a recurring series of videos, Quinnipiac women's soccer head coach Dave Clarke discusses different trends within his own squad and coaching within the Division I ranks of collegiate women's soccer. This week's edition has Clarke delving into his freshmen class and building a successful team.
Included in the seven-member Class of 2020 is Estefy Estrada Zavala (Monterrey, Mexico), Ally Grunstein (Warren, New Jersey), Jenn Maldonado (Bridgeport, Connecticut), Mackenzie Tibball (West Hartford, Connecticut), Kelsey Goldring (Armonk, New York), Charlotte Edmunds (Shrewsbury, England) and Olivia Myszewski (Elm Grove, Wisconsin). They will combine with 19 returning players from the 2015 squad that finished 8-8-1 overall, a five-win mark up from a three-win 2014 season.
Combining with the seven incoming freshmen class, the Bobcats will feature 19 underclassmen in 2016 with seven total upperclassmen for a total squad list of 26. Those underclassmen did gain some valuable experience last season as Quinnipiac returns 10-of-13 players who saw time in at least 12 games last season. The back line includes a group of four sophomores who played in at least nine games in 2015 while last season's top three scorers all return for the 2016 season.
