Senior Day
With their match on Friday, Apr. 1 at Bryant cancelled, the Quinnipiac men's tennis team will take on the Niagara Purple Eagles on Saturday, Apr. 2 for Senior Day at 1 PM.
All-Time Against Niagara
The Bobcats are 1-1 all-time against the Purple Eagles, winning a big 7-0 sweep last year in their first trip to North Tonawanda, New York. Prior to that, the Bobcats lost their only home match against Niagara, which fell on senior day in 2014, 6-1.
Scouting the Purple Eagles
Niagara comes into the match on this weekend with a 4-9 over record and 2-2 mark in MAAC play. Niagara lost to Fairfield, 5-2 before two straight wins over Siena and Rider, 6-1 and 5-2, respectively. Last time out, Niagara fell to Monmouth, 6-1. Felipe Fuentes has dominated in conference play, going 4-0 on his way to a 5-7 overall record. Chris Grossi and Francis Nadeau also have five wins in singles play to lead the team. In doubles, Fuentes and Nadeau are 4-4, the only duo with more than one win and are 2-0 in MAAC play.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac knocked off Wagner, 7-0, for their ninth win of the season. Four different Bobcats picked up two individual wins on the weekend, with Jonas Kuwert, Willem van Biezen, Kei Ezaka and Julian Rozenstein leading the pack.
Senior Salute
Quinnipiac will be honoring their three-member senior class of Luke Roser, Jonas Kuwert and Ben Teicher. This is one of the more decorated classes for the Bobcats, with numerous postseason and major academic awards among the three of them. In four years, this class has combined to win 37 team matches to date and 197 overall matches, 162 of which have come at Quinnipiac.
Luke Roser
Roser was named a co-captain of the team heading into his senior season and his leadership has been valuable to the team. He won his 100th career match earlier in the month of March against Boston University, becoming the sixth player in Division I program history to win at least 100 matches. Currently, his 106 wins are fifth in Division I program history while his 57 singles wins are third and his 49 doubles wins are sixth. Roser has won at least 20 matches in every season at Quinnipiac, highlighted by this season's 32 wins and counting.
Jonas Kuwert
Kuwert has been an impact player for the Bobcats since transferring from Old Dominion, winning 49 matches in a Bobcat uniform in addition to the 35 he won coming into Quinnipiac. Kuwert won 31 matches last season, on his way to being named to the All-MAAC second Team at No. 2 singles and the team MVP. Kuwert was also named an ITA Scholar-Athlete as well as to the MAAC All-Academic Team. Kuwert has 84 wins in his career. This season, Kuwert is 18-13, including an impressive 10-5 record in singles.
Ben Teicher
Teicher walked on to the Quinnipiac men's tennis team as a sophomore in the 2013-14 season and was named a captain this season for his senior year. Teicher has seven wins in his career heading into the match and has been a valuable teammate throughout his three seasons. Teicher is a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and was named to the MAAC All-academic Team last season as a junior.
What to Watch For
The Quinnipiac men's tennis team has two matches to look forward to next week where they will travel to Fairfield, Connecticut on Tuesday, Apr. 5 at 3 PM to face the Sacred Heart Pioneers before hosting the ASA College Avengers on Saturday, Apr. 9 in Hamden at 1 PM.
