The Quinnipiac men's tennis team is back home for its first home match of the spring season on Saturday, March 5 when they take on the Boston University Terriers at the North Haven Health and Racquet Center at 6:30 P.M.
All-Time Against the Terriers
Boston University holds a 7-4 record against Quinnipiac in 11 matchups during the Division I era. The Bobcats and Terriers have faced each other one time every year, minus whether delays. The last two seasons, the Bobcats and Terriers have been cancelled due to winter weather early in the season. The last time these two teams faced off, BU won 7-0 on Feb. 16, 2013. Luke Roser is the only current player to have played in the match. Quinnipiac's last win against BU came on Apr. 10, 2010 with the Bobcats winning, 5-2.
Scouting Boston University
The Terriers come into the weekend with a 4-3 record overall, including a 1-2 mark in road matches this season. BU has played several MAAC opponents and common opponents to the Bobcats, defeating Fairfield 5-2, losing to Marist 6-1, beating Sacred Heart and UConn, 5-2 and 4-3, respectively, and falling to Brown, 6-1. Jake De Vries and Jay Leelavanich are both tied for the team lead with six wins in match play this season, with De Vries going 6-5 while Leelavanich is 6-7, with a 2-2 mark at No. 1 singles.Jeff Chan has four wins this season, including three in singles play.
Last Time Out
The Bobcats traveled to the Philadelphia area where they faced the St. Joseph's Hawks and Temple Owls. After knocking off St. Joseph's, 5-2, the Bobcats fell to the Temple Owls, 6-1, who extended their winning streak to 10 matches. Both Freddie Zaretsky and Kyle Alper won three matches in the weekend for the Bobcats.
No Sophomore Slump
Kyle Alper has not let his foot off the pedal since an incredible freshman season for the Bobcats, winning 26 matches already this season compared to 28 in his entire freshman season. Alper won a pair of singles matches against St. Joseph's and a big win against Temple resulting in the Bobcats only point. In his career, Alper has 54 career wins, the most among the sophomore class and fourth most on the active roster.
Zooming Zaretsky
Freddie Zaretsky's fantastic freshman season continued this weekend with three more wins, including a pair of doubles wins with Luke Roser for a perfect 2-0 mark. Zaretsky's wins give him 24 this season, including 11 in singles play and 13 in doubles play as he puts up one of the best freshman seasons in program history.
The Kei to Victory
With a 2-2 mark this weekend, Kei Ezaka moved up to 88 career wins as he chases teammate Luke Roser for the most wins on the active roster. Ezaka has 18 wins this season, including 10 in singles play for his third straight double-digit singles win season.
The Road to 100
Luke Roser is just two wins away from becoming the sixth player in Division I program history to win 100 career matches, joining John Hughes (137), Erica Ambrosio (131), James Kwei (127), Brian Mikkelson (121) and Charles Feldman (2010) in the 100-win club. Roser currently is 16-5 in doubles play this season, good for the most doubles wins on the team.
Piling Up the Wins
Also in the midst of a super sophomore season, Julian Rozenstein has won 19 matches this season to boost his career total to 53-28. In singles play, Rozenstein has been particularly good once again as he is 13-6 this season after a 20-7 performance as a freshman.
First Win Together
Willem van Biezen and Ryoma Haraguchi teamed up for their first doubles win together this season, picking up the win against St. Joseph's on Saturday. Haraguchi's win was good for his 10th win of the season, one win shy of tying his mark from last season. On the other hand, van Biezen's win was his 24th of the season, five wins shy of tying his freshman-season career-high. With one more win in singles, van Biezen will set a new career high.

Following Saturday's match, the Quinnipiac men's tennis team will head down to Orlando, Florida for their annual spring break trip from March 13-18 where they will play five matches against competition from around the country.
