Alyson Caron, Kristen Ulrich, Kaleigh Roberts and Cori Reid Combine for the DMR Program Record
NEW HAVEN, Connecticut – A program record in the distance medley relay highlighted what was a great start to the Giegengack Invitational for the Quinnipiac women's indoor track and field team at Coxe Cage on the campus of Yale University.
The Bobcats' four-man team of Alyson Caron (Andover, New Jersey), Kristen Ulrich (Clark, New Jersey), Cori Reid (Old Saybrook, Connecticut) and Kaleigh Roberts (Higganum, Connecticut) was sensational throughout their record-breaking performance. The relay group clocked in at 11:45.92, besting the previous program record of 11:46.92 (Feb. 28, 2014) by exactly one second. Roberts helped lead the way as she clocked in her mile split in just over 4:52 as the Bobcats finished second out of seven relay groups in competition.
A pair of standouts in the field events came via Quinnipiac's underclassmen contingent as sophomore Leah Pfrommer (Killingworth, Connecticut) won the long jump event with a season-high 5.51m. Pfrommer's first career individual victory was a dominating win as she cleared the second place finisher by 0.15m.
Another standout in the field events was freshman Carly Timpson (Narragansett, Rhode Island) who tied her own program record in the high jump with 1.65m. Timpson previously jumped 1.65m at the Wagner Seahawk Shootout back on Dec. 11. Timpson completed her day with an impressive second place finish in the weight throw as she threw 16.15m.
The lone individual track events on the night were the 200m and 5000m and the sprint contingent showed well led by Ulrich's second place result in the 200m. Ulrich clocked in at 25.73 seconds to lead a group of four Bobcats as she placed second out of 20 runners. Bonnie Pisciotta (Lindenhurst, New York) scored a top five finish, placing fifth overall with a time of 25.94 seconds. Alea Simons (Piscataway, New Jersey) took eighth place at 26.45 seconds while Meredith Ramsey (Penacook, New Hampshire) placed 12th with a time of 27.08 seconds.
The Bobcats' 5000m contingent was led by Cameron Chaplen (Thomaston, Connecticut) who crossed the line in 18:13.44 to take eighth place out of 12 runners.
Quinnipiac resumes competition with day two of the Giegengack Invitational on Saturday. Next weekend, the Bobcats will head to Boston for the Valentine Invitational on Friday, Feb. 12.
