
QU Women's Tennis Splits Final Day of UConn Invite

East Hartford, Connecticut – The Quinnipiac women's tennis team split a pair of matches to wrap up the UConn Invite on Sunday, Jan. 31 as they knocked off the Bryant Bulldogs, 3-2, after getting swept by the UConn Huskies, 5-0, at the East Hartford Racquet Club.
Both matches on Sunday followed the same 4:1 format, where the teams played four singles matches and one doubles match.
In the Bobcats 3-2 win over the Bulldogs, Sophia Dzulynsky (Miramar, Florida), Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) and Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California) all picked up their first wins of the spring.
Lu picked up the first win of the spring for the Bobcats in their victory against Bryant as she faced Briana Leonard, cruising to the straight set win, 6-2, 6-3. Horton finished up shortly after Lu to pick up the Bobcats second win, defeating Bryant's Ryan Brown, 6-3, 6-4. Dzulynsky picked up her 82nd career victory on Sunday afternoon after defeating Linnea Sjoberg, 6-4, 6-4, to clinch the win for the Bobcats.
Alexandra Mircea (Glen Rock, New Jersey) competed for the second time on the afternoon in the match against the Bulldogs, falling to Marion Bouillin in a long, three-set match, 6-3, 6-7 (4), 11-9. Opening up the match, Sitilia Rencheli (Sarasota, California) and Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California) teamed up for the first time this season but fell to Nina Luiggi and Ashanti Campfield, 6-4, 6-2.
Opening up the day, the Bobcats were swept by the Huskies in the six matches the team played. In doubles play, Horton and Sydney Young (Austin, Texas) played a three-set doubles match. After taking the first set, the Bobcats nearly won the third set but fell to Srna Stosljevic and Jacquelyn Fitz-Randolph, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8. Adrian Young (Orange Village, Ohio) and Kelsi Oliphant (Calgary, Alberta) teamed up as Oliphant competed in her first match since the 2013-14 season, falling to Gillian Perrotta and Jenise Vargas, 6-1, 6-1.
UConn continued its strong performance in singles, led by Emma Alderman's 6-0, 6-2 victory over Dzulynsky at No. 1 singles. Mircea was the next one done for the Bobcats, falling to Jacqueline Lazaro, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles. Lohaphaisan finished closely to Mircea at No. 3 singles, dropping her match to Shea Flanagan at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-3. Lu was the last Bobcat on the court against the Huskies, falling to Yleyzaveta Pletnyeva in three sets after taking the first, 5-7, 6-3, 10-6.
The Bobcats will have nearly two weeks off before they host the Binghamton Bearcats in the first dual match of the 2016 season at North Haven Health and Racquet on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 6:30 P.M.
