
QU Women's Tennis Duo Horton and Lohaphaisan Reach Flight "A" Doubles Finals at Quinnipiac Invitational

HAMDEN, Conn. – Day two of the Quinnipiac Invitational is in the books for the Quinnipiac women's tennis team as the Bobcats' duo of Rachel Horton (Stamford, Connecticut) and Proyfon Lohaphaisan (Santa Clarita, California) advanced to the Flight "A" doubles finals scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 20.
The Bobcats picked up the one victory on the afternoon with the doubles victory for Horton and Lohaphaisan, with the team also playing four close, hard fought matches in singles action later in the day.
Horton and Lohaphaisan took the court in their morning semifinal matchup against UConn's Summer Walker and Shea Flanagan and cruised into the finals on Sunday with a 6-1 victory over the Huskies duo. Horton and Lohaphaisan improve to 7-1 this season when playing together in doubles play.
With doubles done for the day, Jennifer Lu (Cypress, California) took the court in Flight "A" singles for the Bobcats. Putting up a fight against Drexel's Honami Yazawa, Lu fell just short in the tight, two-set loss, 7-5, 6-4. The final three singles matches of the day all went three sets for the Bobcats. Lohaphaisan came back in the second set to force a third set with Zaina Zaki but Zaki pulled away late in the third set as Lohaphaisan fell, 6-2, 4-6, 11-9. Alexandra Mircea's (Glen Rock, New Jersey) put up a good fight as she came back to force a third set but she came up just short against Drexel's Anisiya Simpson, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5. In the final match of the day for the Bobcats, Adrian Young (Orange Village, Ohio) played a strong second set to force her match into three sets, but UConn's Jenise Vargas won the match, 6-0, 5-7, 10-6.
The final day of competition at the Quinnipiac Invitational kicks off on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 9 A.M. with the two doubles flights finals, with Flight "A" featuring Horton and Lohaphaisan, as well as the semifinals and finals of all four flights of singles.
