PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Quinnipiac men's basketball senior Ousmane Drame (Boston, Mass.) was featured in an article on ESPN.Com Boston on Friday, April 10, 2015. The story, written by columnist Sean Flynn, highlights Drame's basketball career and his potential to be selected in the upcoming NBA Draft in June.
Eight of last year's graduating seniors holding invitations to the Portsmouth Invitational found themselves appearing on NBA rosters this season, while NBA All-Stars Jimmy Butler, John Stockton and Dave Cowens were once NBA maybes who got their start in the prestigious event.
Drame finished with eight points and eight rebounds in the first game of the tournament, followed by a double-double in the second game. He had 11 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
The 6-foot-9 forward from Boston, Mass. was the most influential big man in the MAAC this year. His size, length and high basketball IQ helped him to 88 blocks while altering countless others. He averaged 3.0 blocks per game – which was more than one block per game better than Monmouth's Brice Kofane who finished second for the category.
Drame also led the MAAC in offensive, defensive and total rebounding, bringing in 11.2 per game. On the national scale, he finished sixth in rebounds per game and fifth in defensive rebounds per game. Drame hauled in 23 in the MAAC First Round game against Marist – the fourth most by any player in the country this year.
Offensively, the MAAC second Teamer averaged 14.9 points per game which had him eighth among players in the league. He shot 45.5 percent from the field and 80.6 percent from the free-throw line.
Drame is Quinnipiac's all-time leader in career blocks (217) and the Division I leader in career rebounds (1,108). He ranks eighth on the Division I scoring list and 17th all-time.
Drame plays again on Saturday, April 11 at 12 p.m. Fans can follow along and watch live on www.PortsmouthInvitational.com.
