NJIT NEXT FOR QUINNIPIAC
The Quinnipiac men's lacrosse team returns to the turf on Saturday, Feb. 28 when the Bobcats take on New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark. The meeting marks the first between the two teams, as NJIT is in its inaugural season as an NCAA Division I program. Faceoff is set for 12 p.m. at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
ALL-TIME AGAINST NJIT
Quinnipiac and NJIT will meet for the first time on Saturday.
SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS
NJIT made its debut last weekend as a varsity intercollegiate sport, but the fledgling Highlanders absorbed an 18-4 loss against the well-established Seawolves of Stony Brook at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. Stony Brook, a perennial favorite in the America East, jumped out to a 6-0 advantage and never looked back in the season-opener for both teams. The Highlanders were led by Tyler Baggett who netted a pair of goals in the losing effort. John Roach and Joe Lomeli each added a goal apiece, while Gabe Giovanello and Conor Lally tallied assists in the game. Goalie Nick Marzullo posted nine saves between the pipes.
LAST TIME OUT
In its season opener last season, Quinnipiac fell short to Brown, 17-6, at Cliff Stevenson Field in Providence, R.I. Quinnipiac scored 38 seconds into the second quarter to tie the score at 2-2, but Brown pulled away with four straight goals and then seven of the game's next eight. The Bear lead was too much for the Bobcats to overcome, leaving QU with its first loss of the 2015 season. Sagl cashed in at the 6:59 mark to give Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead in the first quarter. For the game, Connor Meth and Brian Feldman led the way for Quinnipiac with multiple points in the game. Nate Nibbelink and David Glynn also added goals for the Bobcats. Pat Corcoran, Kevin Diehl and James Byrns each tallied an assist as well.
MAAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Brian Feldman received Quinnipiac's first weekly honor of the 2015 season, as the freshman attackman was tabbed MAAC Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week, announced on Monday, Feb. 23, 2015. Feldman shined in his first collegiate lacrosse game, scoring two goals when facing Brown on Saturday. Feldman scored twice in a four minute span in the fourth quarter of the game. He netted his first collegiate goal at the 5:58 mark on a feed from Kevin Diehl, and then scored just minutes later on a pass from Connor Meth. Feldman was perfect on the day, scoring on each of his two shots.
THE NETMINDER
Jack Brust turned away 16 shots in the game against Brown, serving as a career high for the redshirt junior. He made six in the first quarter, and five each in the second and third quarters, before Colin Nesdale wrapped up the fourth.
BOBCATS SLATED FIFTH IN COACHES' POLL
The Quinnipiac men's lacrosse team was picked to finish fifth in the MAAC's Preseason Coaches' Poll, announced on January 28, 2015. Siena College, last year's MAAC Champions, claimed the top spot in the poll with 46 total points. Marist College, the MAAC championship runner-up, was second in the poll with 38 points, while Canisius College (33), University of Detroit Mercy (30) and Quinnipiac (27) rounded out the top five. Manhattan College (13) and Monmouth (9) finished sixth and seventh.
