
QU Women's Volleyball Drops 2015 Finale to Manhattan, 3-0

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University women's volleyball team's 2015 season came to an end on Sunday with a straight set loss at the hands of Manhattan. Freshman Jen Coffey (Merrimack, New Hampshire) went off for 14 kills on 18 swings to record a .722 hitting percentage for the Bobcats while junior setter Emma Ogden (Crown Point, Indiana) compiled a team leading 24 assists to go along with eight digs.
Quinnipiac finishes their 2015 campaign with a 3-28 record and a 1-17 mark in MAAC play while the Jaspers improve to 19-13 with a 12-6 conference record. The set scores were 25-23, 25-23, 25-16 in favor of the Jaspers.
In the opening set, the Bobcats came back from an early six point deficit to tie the frame at 22-22. The Jaspers then recorded three of the next four points, all off kills to take the first set, 25-22. Coffey impressed in the set, smashing six kills on just seven swings for a .857 hitting percentage.
Ogden led Quinnipiac with 10 assists while junior Katie Urycki (Chesterton, Indiana) added three kills. The Bobcats hit at a .154 clip compared to .407 from Manhattan.
The Jaspers took a 2-0 lead with an identical score in the second set. Quinnipiac trailed 22-17, but managed to cut the Manhattan advantage to just one at 24-23.
After a kill by sophomore Elizabeth Kloos (Munster, Indiana) and a service ace by Jamie Termotto (Smithtown, New York), the Bobcats look poised to complete the comeback. The Jaspers called a timeout and regained their composure, posting a kill for the game-winning point directly out of the break.
Kloos and Coffey each compiled three kills in the second set. Coffey needed five swings while Kloos had just four on the way to three smashes. Ogden added to her assist total with eight in the frame, while also posting four digs.
Leading 13-8 in the third set, the Jaspers went on a 6-0 run to take an 11 point advantage, putting the frame out of reach for the Bobcats. Manhattan took the set, 25-16 to close out the match. Despite just seven Quinnipiac kills in the set, Coffey had another strong set. The freshman registered five slams on six attacks for a .667 hitting percentage while Ogden contributed six more assists and three digs.
The Bobcats picked up their first MAAC win in nearly two years this season against Saint Peter's. Next season, Quinnipiac returns 13 of their 14 letterwinners including three freshman as they look to be a strong competitor in the conference.
