HAMDEN, Conn. – Coaches vs. Cancer Suits And Sneakers™ Awareness Week, a collaborative initiative of the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the American Cancer Society, will take place Jan. 19-25, 2015.
Like more than 4,000 high school and college men's basketball coaches across the country, Quinnipiac University men's basketball head coach Tom Moore, and his coaching staff, will swap their dress shoes for sneakers for each of their games this week to demonstrate their support for the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer.
The Coaches vs. Cancer program is collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The initiative leverages the personal experiences, community leadership, and professional excellence of coaches nationwide to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living through year-round awareness efforts, fundraising activities, and advocacy programs.
College and high school coaches and teams who participate in Suits And Sneakers Awareness Weekend help the American Cancer Society save lives and fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. The Society's efforts have contributed to a 20 percent decline in cancer death rates in the US since 1991, and a 50 percent drop in smoking rates. The Society is finding cures as the nation's largest private, not-for-profit investor in cancer research, ensuring people facing cancer have the help they need, and continuing the fight for access to quality health care, lifesaving screenings, clean air, and more.
Quinnipiac has two games scheduled for this week. Quinnipiac returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 21 when they hit the road to play Saint Peter's University. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City, N.J. After that, Quinnipiac will host the defending MAAC Champions, Manhattan College, on Friday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. in Hamden at the TD Bank Sports Center.
