Women's Soccer Defeats Bryant, 2-0, On Senior Day

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's soccer team defeated Bryant, 2-0, on senior day in its final game of the 2011 season on Friday afternoon. With the victory, the Bobcats end the year at 5-10-1 overall and 4-6 in the NEC, while the Bulldogs drop to 8-8-3 on the year and 4-5-1 in league action.
Both of Quinnipiac's goals were scored in the 41st minute of play. The Bobcats' first goal was scored by junior Chacha Naito (Oneonta, N.Y.), her first goal of the season, on an assist by senior Furtuna Velaj (Stamford, Conn.). Less than a minute later, Quinnipiac increased its lead, 2-0, on a goal notched by junior Paula Kennedy (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.). Kennedy scored her first goal of the year on an assist by sophomore Beck Kiting (Canberra, Australia).
Overall, Quinnipiac outscored Bryant, 14-12 and earned four corker kicks, while the Bulldogs took three corners throughout the NEC match-up.
Quinnipiac senior goalie Jill Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.) compiled three saves in her fifth win of the year, while Bryant keeper's Lauren Viverito and Kelsi Jacob compiled four saves overall.
Quinnipiac seniors, Kristina Del Mistro (East Williston, N.Y.), Jill Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.), Chelsea Smith (Terryville, Conn.), Furtuna Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) and graduate student Kyla Miles (Newtown, Conn.) were honored at the game for their accomplishments with the Bobcats.
