
James Johnson Earns Choice Hotels/NEC Co-Player of the Week

Conn. - Quinnipiac University sophomore guard James Johnson
(Queens, N.Y.) has been named the Choice Hotels Northeast
Conference Co-Player of the Week for the first time in his career
after earning NEC Rookie of the Week status once last season.
Johnson joins teammates Justin Rutty (Newburgh, N.Y.) and James
Feldeine (New York, N.Y.) in becoming the third Bobcat to win the
award this season. Johnson averaged 20.0 points, 3.0 assists and
2.0 steals per game while shooting 56.0 percent from the floor in
helping the Bobcats to a pair of NEC wins against St. Francis
(N.Y.) and Long Island last week.
Johnson helped Quinnipiac clinch its fifth straight NEC Tournament berth with the pair of victories. The Bobcats have now won 12 of their last 13 games and are guaranteed a quarterfinal home game in the league tourney. Johnson began his week with 17 points, three assists and three steals in a 77-65 win over St. Francis (NY) on Thursday. He followed with a career-high 23 point effort as the Bobcats posted an 80-72 victory over Long Island two days later. He nailed three three-pointers and added three assists in the victory over the Blackbirds.
The Queens, NY product has started the first 56 games of his Quinnipiac career, the second longest streak in the program's Division I history. One of three Quinnipiac players averaging in double digits (11.6 ppg), Johnson leads the team and ranks ninth on the circuit with 3.2 apg. He also ranks third in the NEC in free throw percentage, converting at an 82.8 percent clip.Players Mentioned
