HAMDEN,
Conn. - Quinnipiac University men's basketball junior forward
Justin Rutty (Newburgh, N.Y.) has been named among the top 36
players at mid-major Division I colleges by CollegeInsider.com, the
website today announced. Rutty joined a group of 11 players
honorably mentioned, while the top 25 players earned Preseason
Mid-Major All-America Team recognition. The selections were made by
the CollegeInsider.com staff, with the help of a group of Division
I coaches and NBA scouts.
Rutty enjoyed a breakout sophomore season in which he established himself as one of the nation's best rebounders, particularly on the offensive glass. The Newburgh, N.Y., native finished second nationally in offensive rebounding average (4.6) to only current San Antonio Spurs forward DeJuan Blair (5.6), formerly of Pittsburgh. Rutty also finished 20th in the NCAA in overall rebounding average (9.8), and 11th in field-goal percentage (.604).
Rutty finished last season with a league-high 13 double-doubles. Mount St. Mary's guard Jeremy Goode was also named to the Preseason Mid-Major All-America Team.
