Two members of the Quinnipiac University softball team - freshman Krista Seeman (Irvine, Calif.) and senior Maria Browne (Park Ridge, N.J.) - were recognized by the Northeast Conference on Thursday night with year end accolades. Seeman was chosen as the league's Rookie of the Year and also earned First-Team All-NEC honors. Brown was tabbed for Second-Team All-NEC.
A prolific hitter who also shines from the pitcher's circle, Seeman quickly established herself as one of the top players in the conference. In her rookie campaign, Seeman batted .380 while drilling a league-leading 10 homers. She ranks tied for third in RBI's with 34.
From the pitchers' circle the California native has appeared in 22 games, garnering 10 wins to go along with an ERA of 1.97 (fourth in the conference). She has only allowed 11 extra base hits while holding opposing batters to a .204 batting average.
Browne caps her Quinnipiac career by earning NEC year end accolades for the first time in her career. She ranks second on the Bobcats in batting average (.261) and runs scored (20) and has been the team's offensive catalyst.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Friday morning at 10 a.m. when it takes on Long Island in the NEC tournament. A loss will put it in an elimination game at 3 p.m., while a win places it in a winners' bracket contest at 5 p.m. All games will be played at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
