Josh Glaab enters his fifth season at the helm of the Quinnipiac men's cross country program in 2020. Glaab first arrived in Hamden in the summer of 2016 for his first collegiate experience after a long coaching stint with Fairview High School in Colorado.
Glaab has led the team to some great showings at the MAAC Championships. Most recently, the Bobcats had their best finish since 2014 at the conference championships in 2018. Michael Kiernan finished in fourth place overall in the men's 8k with a time of 25:24.5. Tommy Consalvo was not too far behind and took 10th place with a time of 25:40.5. Cam Starr finished in 18th with a time of 25:59.3.
Glaab's thoughts after the standout performance from the team in 2018: "Today was the culmination of three years of hard work, and to move from eighth in the conference to fourth is a huge accomplishment," said Glaab. "It is so rare for a group of athletes to come together and have legitimately great performances all on the same day."
His first season with the Bobcats saw Glaab mentor All-MAAC runner Brendan Copley while leading Quinnipiac to a seventh place showing at the 2016 MAAC Championships held at Disney. The Bobcats won the 2016 Stony Brook Invitational, marking the first meet victory for the program since winning the Northeast Conference title in 2008. His squad also achieved high marks in the classroom, accumulating a 3.58 cumulative team GPA through the fall of 2016 which stood as the eighth-highest team GPA in the nation. The 2016 squad earned the USTFCCCA Division I Academic Team Award and earned a perfect 1000 APR score.
An experienced coach on the high school level, Glaab spent 10 total seasons, including six serving as the head coach for the Fairview High School cross country programs. In his six seasons as the head coach at Fairview (2010-16), he led a 120-member co-ed team to six straight Top 3 finishes at the Colorado State Meet in the state’s largest division. Named the Colorado Region 5 Coach of the Year, Glaab developed a culture of high athletic and academic achievement for the large squad. He also practiced skills managing his assistant coaches and team captains, collaborated with community partners and parents to develop access to opportunities for the student-athletes and he created summer camps for team bonding and individual development.
In his 10-year long tenure (2006-16) at Fairview High School, Glaab also served as a high school science teacher in what is classified as a highly effective IB school which is consistently ranked in the Top 10 in Colorado. His role at the high school extended beyond the classroom as he also served as IT support for the 100-member staff and was the IT chair for the science department while also being an Athletics Game Day administrator.
A former two-time All-Mountain Region runner for Colorado State University, the former Ram participated in four NCAA Championships in his four years as a student-athlete. Glaab compiled numerous accolades in his collegiate career as he was an eight-time All-Conference and All-Academic athlete, earned the Mountain West Freshman of the Year honor and graduated with the Mountain West Conference and Colorado State indoor 5000m record.
He continued his career as a professional for five years following graduation, placing first in the Chicago Rock and Roll Half-Marathon while also securing competitive partnerships with Puma, Mizuno and New Balance. His personal best times include 14:02 in the 5000m, 29:11 in the 10,000m and 1:05.01 in the half-marathon.
A native of Boulder, Colorado, Glaab graduated from Colorado State University in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in natural science with physics emphasis. He later earned his master’s in education leadership from Colorado State in 2010.
