Tahar Sutton recently completed his first season with the Bobcats, and will enter his second season with the program in 2023-24.
The Bobcats are coming off a 20-win season in 2022-23, marking the fourth time in the school’s Division I history that it reached 20 total victories. QU won a pair of games against NCAA Tournament teams, went 9-4 in Hamden, and defeated each MAAC opponent during the regular season to earn the No. 3 seed in the postseason league tournament.
He joined the Bobcats after most recently serving as Associate Head Boys Basketball Coach at Imhotep Charter High School in Philadelphia since 2010. He helped guide the Panthers to a Philadelphia Public League Championship seven different times since 2011.
Sutton has also been the Head Coach for Team Final (15U-17U) of the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (Nike EYBL) for each of the last six years. While leading Team Final, Sutton successfully scouted and recruited potential top targets for each AAU season.
Sutton worked closely with Head Coach Andre Noble at Imhotep, helping lead the program to become Philadelphia Public League Champions in seven separate seasons (2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, & 2021). Imhotep was crowned PUAA State Champions six times under Sutton (2011, 2012, 2013, 2017, 2018, & 2019). He helped guide the Panthers to a record of 88-9 from 2017-19.
He also served as the Assistant Boys Basketball Coach at Paul Roberson High School from 2005-2010, helping the team reach the PIAA State Playoffs for the first time in school history during the 2006-07 campaign.
Sutton was born in Philadelphia, Pa. He currently resides in Hamden with his wife, Terri, and his daughter, Taahira. Sutton also has three sons: DeWayne Russell, Deron "Fatts" Russell, and Dejuan Russell.
