Erin Sweeney is in her second year with the Quinnipiac’s athletic training staff on a full-time basis in 2018-19. She will work primarily with the field hockey and softball programs.
A familiar face to the athletic department at Quinnipiac, Sweeney served as a graduate athletic trainer for two seasons (2013-15) as she worked primarily with volleyball, women’s rugby, women’s lacrosse, women’s soccer, field hockey, men’s soccer and men’s lacrosse in that two-year span.
While serving in the role as graduate assistant athletic trainer at Quinnipiac, Sweeney oversaw the daily functions of the Main Athletic Training Room. Part of her responsibilities included initiating concussion education programs for all 21 varsity programs, developing and implementing pre and post-surgical rehabilitation protocols and collaborating with the strength and conditioning staff on a daily basis.
Her first postgraduate full-time position came as an athletic trainer fellow for Stanford University from 2015-17. Sweeney worked with the Stanford field hockey and softball programs for two seasons. In her time at Stanford, Sweeney implemented advanced clinical assessment of musculoskeletal in injuries resulting from sport, supervised undergraduate and international interns, assisted in the planning and implementation of Stanford Sports Medicine Summer Camp, served as medical director during NCAA postseason events and collaborated with sports medicine physicians, orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists and staff certified athletic trainers.
Outside of the collegiate circle, Sweeney served as an athletic trainer with the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour in the summer of 2011. She assisted on-site athletic trainers and chiropractor with various styles of taping, on-court evaluations and first aid.
Sweeney is a certified athletic trainer (state licensed in New Jersey) with certifications in Graston Technique (M1), Myofascial Decompression Cupping Technique, Functional Movement Screen (FMS), Upper Quarter Mulligan Technique, Lower Quarter Mulligan Technique, Kinesio Taping Method (KT1 & KT2) and PRI: Pelvis Restoration. She is also a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, College Athletic Trainers’ Society, Athletic Trainers’ Society of New Jersey, Eastern Athletic Trainers’ Association and is CPR certified.
A native of Spring Lake, New Jersey, Sweeney graduated from Quinnipiac University with a bachelor’s of science degree in athletic training in 2013. She went on to earn a master’s of business administration, health care administration from Quinnipiac in 2015.
