Daniel Velek Tabbed For Two MAAC Awards

EDISON, NJ – Graduate student Daniel Velek was tabbed for two MAAC awards on Wednesday afternoon, first being named Male Student-Athlete of the Week as well as MAAC Tennis Player of the Week.

Velek has helped lead the Bobcats to a 4-0 MAAC start at the No. 1 singles spot and has teamed up with James Lorenzetti at No. 2 doubles. In MAAC play, he has a 2-2 record at No. 1 singles while holding a 2-1 record in doubles.

He earned MAAC Tennis Player of the Week after going 3-1 between No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles, teaming up with James Lorenzetti. In singles he defeated Merrimack's Gradski 6-4, 6-4 and Rider's Tangri, 6-2, 6-2. Velek and Lorenzetti's lone doubles win was 6-1 over Martinez and Thurgur of Rider.

Velek and QU will look to continue their 4-0 MAAC start into this weekend, hosting Siena at 3:00 PM on Friday afternoon in Hamden.
