Grisdale Leads QU With 19, Bobcats Fall to Rutgers

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Quinnipiac Women's Basketball team fell to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, 64-55, on Thursday night in Piscataway.
Jackie Grisdale led the way for the Bobcats, scoring 19 points on 53.8% (7-for-13) shooting from the field. Ella Ryan dropped 14 points in her first collegiate start. Ryan shot 45.5% from the field and 50% from three-point range.
Rutgers got out to an early lead, 13-7, as the first media timeout was called. Out of the break, the Bobcats responded with an 11-2 run to turn the game in their favor. Paige Girardi knocked down a three with 27 seconds to go in the quarter to send the Bobcats into the second quarter with a three-point lead, 18-15.
Quinnipiac's lead was cut down to two as the Scarlet Knights opened the second quarter with a 6-5 run as we reached the second quarter media timeout. Rutgers regained the lead, but Quinnipiac answered right back, and Ella Ryan hit a three to give the Bobcats a three-point lead heading into the half.
The two sides traded points until the third-quarter media timeout, when the Bobcats led 38-35. Out of the timeout, the Bobcats regained control, going on a 6-3 run to push their lead to six, thanks to another Ella Ryan three to close out the quarter.
Rutgers opened the third quarter on a 10-3 to turn the game into their hands as they led 48-47 halfway through the final quarter. After Jackie Grisdale tied the game at the free-throw line, it was all Rutgers after that to close out the game as the Scarlet Knights won 64-55.
