Bobcats Drop Home Opener to St. John's

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac Women's Basketball team dropped its non-conference game to the St. John's Red Storm, 53-51, on Tuesday in Hamden.
Ella O'Donnell led the Bobcats with 16 points on 53.8% (7-for-13) shooting from the floor. O'Donnell also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds in the loss. Jackie Grisdale was QU's second-highest scorer as she scored 15 points in the effort.
Quinnipiac and St. John's were locked in a defensive battle early in the game as the Red Storm held a 6-4 lead at the first quarter media timeout. Out of the break, the Red Storm went on a 9-6 run to take a 15-10 lead at the end of the opening quarter.
The Bobcats opened the second quarter on a run of their own, 8-4, to make it just a one-point game at the second quarter media timeout. Quinnipiac continued to control the second quarter, going on a 7-4 run out of the timeout as they headed into the locker room at the half with a 25-23 lead.
Quinnipiac and St. John's traded points to start the third quarter as the Bobcats still held a two-point advantage at the media timeout. Quinnipiac came out of the break and increased their lead to four as they entered the final ten minutes with a 37-33 lead.
The Bobcats made it a nine-point game with a 5-0 run to start the final quarter, leading 42-33. It was all Red Storm after that as they closed out the game on a 20-9 run to beat the Bobcats by two, 53-51.
