
No. 14 Bobcats Drop Exhibition Matchup

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The No. 13 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team dropped an exhibition matchup with No. 9 Providence on Sunday afternoon, as the Friars scored the game's final two goals in a 2-1 victory at Schneider Arena.
Ben Riche scored the Bobcats' lone goal of the contest, speeding away from the Providence defense to score on a breakaway and give Quinnipiac a 1-0 lead.
Providence responded with a goal midway through the first with a goal from the slot.
The Friars scored what turned into the game-winner at the 7:32 mark of the second, potting one on the man-advantage to finish the game's scoring.
Quinnipiac pulled the goalie with 5:18 to go in the third for a 6-on-4 advantage on a power play and then 6-on-5 for the final 3:18 of the contest. The Bobcats fired 17 shot attempts in that span, but Providence blocked seven and the Friars' goalie saved four others to seal the win.

The Bobcats head to the IceBreaker Tournament next weekend, held at Arizona State University. Quinnipiac will open with Alaska-Fairbanks and then take on the winner of Arizona State-Notre Dame the following day.

- Will Gilson led the Bobcats with three blocked shots, as Quinnipiac as a team fended off 14 before they got to the net.
- Quinnipiac won 36 of an available 61 faceoffs, with Matthew Lansing leading the way with five victories.
