Bobcats Open MAAC Play With Win Over Rider

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac volleyball program kicks off MAAC play with a four-set victory over the Rider Broncs on Saturday afternoon in Hamden.
Elena Giaocmini records her sixth double-double of the season as she records 19 kills and 11 digs. Leilani-kai Giusta was second on the team with 16 kills and two blocks.

SET ONE (25-19, Quinnipiac)
The Bobcats opened up the match with a 15-9 run to force Rider to call their first timeout of the set. Alexandra Tennon led the Bobcats with three kills in that stretch.
Out of the break, the Bobcats kept on the pressure and sealed the 25-19 set victory. Elena Giacomini and Yagmur Gunes tied for the team lead with three kills each after the break.
SET TWO (24-26)
The two sides traded points for much of the second set as they saw themselves tied at 14 points apiece. The Bobcats were able to take a two-point advantage to force Rider to call a timeout.
Out of the timeout, Rider went on a 5-1 run to take a 19-17 lead as the Bobcats called their first timeout. The Bobcats made it a one-point game as Rider called a timeout while being up 22-21. After two straight points from Rider, QU called their final timeout of the set. The Bobcats tied it up at 24 before Rider got back-to-back points to close out the set.
SET THREE (25-22)
Rider jumped out to an 11-9 lead in the third set, forcing Quinnipiac to call a timeout. After a 3-2 run from the Bobcats, Rider called a timeout to settle things down.
After the Broncs' timeout, the Bobcats used a 7-4 run to take a 19-17 lead. Rider would get back within two, 24-22, before the Bobcats called their final timeout of the set. Elena Giacomini recorded the set-clinching kill to put the Bobcats up two sets to one.
SET FOUR (25-20)
The Broncs took a 10-8 lead early in the fourth set as the Bobcats called their first timeout. Out of the break, the Bobcats were powered by a 9-4 run to take a 17-14 lead.
After a Rider timeout, three straight points from the Bobcats caused Rider to call their final timeout of the set. A 7-4 run from the Broncs made it a 24-21 set as the Bobcats called their second timeout of the set. After the timeout, the Bobcats got a kill from Elena Giacomini to close out the match.
