HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac women's volleyball team will open up MAAC play with back-to-back home games on Saturday, Sep. 28 against Rider and Sunday, Sep. 29 versus Saint Peter's. Both games are scheduled to start at 1 PM on Burt Kahn Court.
SCOUTING RIDER
- The Rider Broncs enter conference play with a 1-11 overall record, with their lone win coming against FDU, 3-2, in the Temple Invitational.
- Rider is coming off a midweek non-conference matchup at Lehigh and fell in straight sets. The Broncs have lost seven matches in a row since their win against FDU.
- Kiannisha Santiago leads the team with 114 kills in 12 matches for an average of 2.92 kills per set. Santiago has recorded 127.5 total points in 39 sets played.
- Saint Peter's enters the weekend with a 2-4 overall record, with their two wins coming against NJIT and Columbia.
- The Peacocks are coming off a Wednesday night match against FDU where they lost in straight sets.
- Maliyah Labrie leads the Peacocks with 76 kills in six matches played. Labrie has registered 91.0 points in 21 sets so far this season.
- The Bobcats competed at the Dartmouth Invitational in Hanover, New Hampshire, and lost both matches.
- Quinnipiac fell to Dartmouth in five sets to open the Invitational before falling in five sets to Providence to round out their non-conference slate.
- Yagmur Gunes was named to the All-Tournament team after recording 34 kills, 14 digs, five blocks, and two assists in two matches.
- The Bobcats finished the season with 19 wins, including six straight to kick off their conference schedule.
- The Bobcats finished 14-4 in MAAC play, which locked them into the No. 2 seed for the 2023 MAAC Championships.
- QU defeated No. 6 Iona, 3-1, in the MAAC Semifinals to punch their ticket to the title game. QU ultimately fell in four sets, 3-1, to in-state rival Fairfield.
- Quinnipiac women's volleyball has been selected number two in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll on August 21st.
- Junior Ginevra Giovagnoni was voted the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year. In her second season as a Bobcat, Giovagnoni led the MAAC in kills per set (4.14) and points per set (4.67).
- Along with Giovagnoni being named to the Preseason All-MAAC team, reigning Setter of the Year, Damla Gunes, was also named to the team.
- Head Coach Kyle Robinson enters his sixth season with the Bobcats in 2024.
- Robinson is 205-147 over his career as a collegiate head coach (7 seasons at LIU before QU)
- Robinson has firmly cemented himself as one of the premiere college coaches in the NCAA's highest division. He effectively etched his signature on Quinnipiac volleyball by becoming the first head coach in program history to lead the program to an NCAA Tournament berth in 2022.
- The Bobcats return 11 members who were on the squad last season.
- Among those returners are Ginevra Giovagnoni, who appeared on the 2023 MAAC All-Championship team, Damla Gunes, the 2023 MAAC Setter of the Year, and the team leader in total points, Yagmur Gunes.
- The Bobcats' non-conference schedule continues as they travel to Brookville, N.Y. to take on the LIU Sharks (Sep. 3) before heading to Williamsburg, Virginia to take part in the William & Mary Invitational (Sep. 6-7).
- QU will then head back to Virginia to compete in the George Mason Invitational (Sep. 13-14) in Fairfax. They will battle Navy and Old Dominion on the 13th before wrapping up with George Mason on the 14th.
- Quinnipiac will wrap up their non-conference schedule with the Dartmouth Invitational against Dartmouth (Sep. 21) and Providence (Sep. 22) in Hanover, NH.
- Head Coach Kyle Robinson and the squad return to Hamden as they take on the Rider Broncs to open MAAC play on Sep. 28.
- Following a home battle with Saint Peter's (Sep. 29) and MAAC newcomer Merrimack (Oct. 2), the Bobcats will head to Fairfield for a 2023 MAAC Championship rematch on Oct. 5.
- After a quick road trip to Fairfield, the squad returns home for three straight matches, against Sacred Heart (Oct. 6), Manhattan (Oct. 12), and Iona (Oct. 13).
- Following the three-game homestand, QU will hit the road for six straight contests which begins at Marist on October 20. The Bobcats will head to Siena on October 21st before heading to Buffalo to take on Canisius (Oct. 26) and Niagara (Oct. 27). To wrap up the road trip, the Bobcats will battle the two newer teams in the MAAC with a matchup against Merrimack (Oct. 30) and Sacred Heart (Nov. 2).
- The Bobcats return to Hamden with a Sunday MAAC matchup with Fairfield (Nov. 3) and wrap up their home slate with a Saturday match against Siena (Nov. 9) and Marist (Nov. 10).
- The Bobcats wrap their regular season on the road with bouts at Iona (Nov. 16) and Manhattan (Nov. 17).
